UNISON’s Croydon Health Branch is sharing an important update following the conclusion of a disability discrimination and reasonable adjustments grievance, which has been upheld in full after a formal internal process.
The grievance related to a failure to appropriately support a disabled member and to put reasonable adjustments in place. The outcome confirms that the member was treated unfairly and that CHS did not fully meet its legal obligations.
UNISON supported the member throughout the process, ensuring their concerns were raised clearly and addressed properly. As a result, CHS has committed to taking corrective action and implementing necessary changes.
This outcome highlights the importance of listening to staff concerns, meeting obligations around equality and reasonable adjustments, and creating a workplace where disabled staff are treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
UNISON will continue to monitor the implementation of agreed actions and remains committed to supporting members and staff facing issues related to disability, reasonable adjustments, or discrimination.
Staff who have concerns or who require advice or support regarding disability or reasonable adjustments are encouraged to seek help in confidence through UNISON or appropriate internal channels.
