Update on HCA rebanding and backpay

UNISON secures progress on rebanding and backpay for HCAs!

After persistent campaigning by UNISON and dedicated efforts from your local UNISON Branch, Croydon University Hospital has now made an offer to address the long overdue rebanding of Band 2 Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to Band 3. This offer also includes addressing the critical issue of backpay for eligible staff.

Nationally, UNISON has long recognised that HCAs have consistently been carrying out duties that fall under the responsibilities of a Band 3 role – without receiving the proper pay or recognition. It’s clear that HCAs have been stepping up, performing vital tasks beyond their current banding, and it’s time that work is fairly valued.

We are now preparing to enter negotiations with the Trust to ensure the offer fully meets our expectations and delivers the best possible deal for our members. Once a final offer is on the table, we will consult with all affected UNISON members to decide whether to accept it.

As soon as we have more details to share, we will write directly to all HCA members with an update.

But we need you.

These negotiations, and your right to vote on any offer, depend on union membership. If you’re not yet a UNISON member, now is the time to join. Only members will be consulted on whether to accept the final deal.
